To install Windows on a computer, follow these steps:
1. Prepare for Installation
A. Check system requirements:
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the version of Windows you plan to install.
B. Backup your data:
Installing Windows may erase everything on your computer, so back up important files to an external drive or cloud storage.
C. Download the Windows ISO:
Go to the official Microsoft website to download the correct Windows ISO (Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.).
D. Create a bootable USB drive:
You'll need a USB drive with at least 8 GB of space. Use the Windows Media Creation Tool or third-party tools like Rufus to create a bootable USB drive.
Windows Media Creation Tool:
Download and run the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website.
Select "Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC."
Choose language, edition, and architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).
Select "USB flash drive" and wait for it to complete.
2. Set up BIOS to boot from USB
Insert the bootable USB drive into your computer.
Restart the computer and access the BIOS/UEFI settings. This usually involves pressing a key (like F2, F12, Delete, or Esc) right after powering on the computer.
In BIOS/UEFI, navigate to the Boot menu and set the USB drive as the first boot option.
Save and exit BIOS/UEFI. The computer will restart and boot from the USB.
3. Begin Windows Installation
Once the computer boots from the USB drive, you'll see the Windows installation screen. Follow these steps:
A. Select Language, Time, and Keyboard:
Choose your preferred language, time and currency format, and keyboard or input method.
Click Next and then Install Now.
B. Enter the Product Key:
If you have a product key, enter it now. If you don’t, you can skip this step and activate Windows later.
C. Select Windows Edition:
Choose the Windows edition you want to install (Home, Pro, etc.).
D. Accept License Agreement:
Read and accept the license terms.
E. Select Installation Type:
Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) if you want a fresh installation (this will erase all data on the selected drive).
F. Choose the Partition:
If you have multiple partitions, select the one where you want to install Windows. If you want to delete or format partitions, you can do so here. Once done, click Next.
4. Complete Installation
Windows will begin installing. This process may take several minutes. Your computer will restart several times during the installation.
A. Configure Windows Settings:
After the installation, you’ll be prompted to configure settings like your region, keyboard layout, and network.
If connected to the internet, you can sign in with a Microsoft account or create a local user account.
Set up features like Cortana (optional), privacy settings, and Windows Update preferences.
5. Install Drivers and Updates
Once the installation is complete:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to download the latest updates.
Install drivers from your manufacturer’s website if any hardware is not working correctly (e.g., graphics card, Wi-Fi adapter).
Your Windows installation is now complete
